These terms govern your application to and participation in the Smart Rural Homes Pilot Family Programme — Cohort 01, operated under the Smart Africa Alliance AgriTech flagship in partnership with Kwekwe Polytechnic and the Ngezi Community.

Section 01

Who we are

Smart Rural Homes (“SRH”, “we”, “us”) is a transnational AgriTech pilot co-building smart rural homes with selected families in Zimbabwe. References to “you” mean the individual submitting an application on behalf of a household.

Section 02 · Featured

Application & the $5 fee

A non-refundable application fee of USD $5 is charged at the point of submission. It covers administration and processing — verification, review, and shortlisting logistics — and is independent of the home asset itself.

  • The fee is payable once per household application.
  • Payment of the fee does not guarantee selection into the programme.
  • The fee is non-refundable, including if your application is not shortlisted.

Section 03

Programme structure

Cohort 01 selects three families to co-build and inhabit the inaugural Smart Rural Homes in Kwekwe and Ngezi over a 12-month programme cycle.

  • $0 upfront cost on the home asset. The asset is structured on a three-year payback model.
  • Selection closes once three families have been confirmed. Applicants will be contacted by phone or email within 14 working days.
  • Final selection is at the discretion of the SRH selection panel and Kwekwe Polytechnic.

Section 04

Eligibility

To apply, you must:

  • Be the head or designated representative of a Zimbabwean household.
  • Have legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement (18+).
  • Be willing to relocate to or co-build in Kwekwe or Ngezi for the full 12-month programme cycle.
  • Have household consent to participate in monitoring and reporting activities tied to the pilot.

Section 05

Information you provide

You agree that all information submitted in the application is true, accurate, and complete. False or misleading declarations may result in disqualification at any stage, including after selection.

Section 06

Data & privacy

We collect personal and household information solely to process your application and operate the pilot. Data is handled confidentially and shared only with:

  • The SRH selection panel and Kwekwe Polytechnic review team.
  • Payment processors handling the $5 application fee (transaction data only).
  • Smart Africa Alliance programme reporting, in aggregate or anonymised form, where required.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your application data by contacting hello@smartruralhomes.com. Deletion requests received after selection may be limited by programme audit and reporting obligations.

Section 07

Monitoring & participation

Selected families consent to standard pilot monitoring, including productivity tracking, structured check-ins, and programme evaluations. Aggregate findings may be published as part of the AgriTech pilot’s public reporting; individually identifying details are withheld unless you give explicit consent.

Section 08

Asset & payback terms

The home asset is delivered with no upfront cost to the selected household. Asset ownership transfers under a structured three-year payback model, the full terms of which are set out in the participation agreement signed at onboarding. These Terms & Conditions do not constitute the participation agreement and are superseded by it on signing.

Section 09

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email to applicants and selected households. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the current version.

Section 10

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Zimbabwe. Any dispute arising in connection with these terms shall be resolved through good-faith discussion in the first instance, and failing that, under the jurisdiction of the courts of Zimbabwe.
